Just a quick post to mention that the Brighton Tech for Good Launch is today (Wednesday 10th October).
From the event description:
WHY TECH FOR GOOD BRIGHTON?
Brighton has a dynamic digital scene. It also has an active charity/voluntary/social sector. And a burgeoning social enterprise scene. Brighton also has loads of social challenges. Digital can help in many ways. Let’s join forces — in this new collaborative space!
This looks like an interesting event, and I’ve been looking for events like this to participate in for a while. After spending quite a lot of my most recent work being more commercial focused, I’m looking to recapture some of the spirit of 2009 — 13 when I was involved in many social tech and community based projects. Looking forward to seeing what happens later this evening. I’m hoping to get a sense of what has been happening in Brighton and to see if there are any projects around that could do with my help.
Theres a part of me that feels that 2018 / 19 could in many ways be similar to 2008/9 with the way this space opened up, and offered the chance to experiment with the way tech can do things with social projects. Part of this is driven by Brexit, in similar ways to the credit crunch of ten years ago. I certainly have no desire to profit off others misfortunes and would have no desire to work with projects that where looking like going in that direction (have some previous burn marks in that regard). I do feel the opportunity to do things very differently and for the better are going to be opened up and that is something I’m interested in being involved with.
